Shanghai, April 28^th - 30^th 2005

The 9^th ITTF Sports Science Congress

The 9^th congress, very well prepared and organized by Zhang Xiaopeng, took place from 28^th to 30^th April in the famous Shanghai Jiao Tong University, founded in 1896. About 65 people from Asia (mainly from China, Chinese Taipei, and Japan) and 15 foreigners participated and contributed to the success of the congress. After a very nice Opening Ceremony with the highest personalities of the City of Shanghai, University, and ITTF and in the presence of nearly 150 people, we had 2 full days of podium presentations and one half-day of posters presentations. The social programme, so important for continuing the scientific discussions in a less formal ambiance and for establishing new personalized contacts, was also of high standard: a typical dinner in the old city of Shanghai, followed by a cruise tour on the Huang Pu River (first evening), a table tennis tournament (second evening), and the guided visit of the 2 museums (historical and maritime) of Jiao Tong University the last day.
